November 2009

Tomorrow, tomorrow, you’re just a day away.  I just can’t  wait,
'cause you see, tomorrow I leave for my favorite tournament, the
Wildhorse Spring Round-Up.  If anyone doesn't know why it is my
favorite tournament, all they have to do is check the schedule.

There is added money to every tournament, plus the winner of
every tournament wins a cruise for two to the Mexican Rivera.
There is a scrumptious  buffet every evening for all the players and,
if you bring your spouse or a friend, I will even sneak them in.  But
remember, this will be our little secret.

I guarantee you will have fun.  In fact, if you don’t, I will ask the
tournament director, Roland Waters, to do 20 push-ups for you.
Can he do 20 push-ups?  I don’t know and hopefully we won’t find
out.  Oh, by the way, this is a one-time deal.  In other words, the
last day of the tournament, all those who did not have fun meet
me before the tournament and we will have the boss take off his
jacket and start pumping.  Remember, it only takes one (a bona
fide player to not have fun).

I was In Aruba for the Caribbean Open.  It was the same time as
the Ultimate Bet tournament, so there were a lot of players in
town.  I came just barely in the money, but it was enough to pay
all my expenses, plus I got to hang out with a couple of my friends,
Tom McEvoy and Jeff Freedman, for a few days.   I also ended up
meeting several new players who are too many to remember and
name.

Speaking of Tom McEvoy, I was so disappointed to hear he did not
make the Hall of Fame.  I was happy that Mike Sexton made it, but
I think it is a terrible disservice to the poker community for Tom not
to have made it.  Tom has done everything a player can do, plus a
ton of other things most of the members of that club have not
done.  Maybe like writing thirteen books, hosting several
tournaments as a host and as a tournament director.  I guess
maybe he should have a dealt a few hands to round out his
impressive resume.  Please, you guys who vote, next year vote for
Tom.

On the subject of Hall of Fames, my two good friends, Bonnie
Lehous and Hans Tuna Lund, will be inducted into the Seniors' Hall
of Fame at the Wildhorse in Pendleton, on Novermber 10th.

Bonnie has contributed much in the way of hosting, and running
various tournaments. plus she has done her share of winning also.

Tuna, without doubt, is a legend in the poker world.  I could go on
and on about his accomplishments, but suffice it to say, he is a
superstar.  Tuna has some serious medical problems right now, so
he won’t be there to accept the induction, but all of my thoughts
and prayers are with him.  Tuna, I love you buddy.

Lastly the high school from which I graduated, Northeast High in
Kansas City, Missouri, has asked me to help with a fundraiser for
the Alumni Association.  It is to be held in K.C. next April.  I will give
you more details as soon as they are available.

That’s it for this time.  Best to all.

For What it’s Worth ...
