A few issues ago I asked for questions to ask the current World Series of
Poker champion Chris Ferguson from my readers.  I received one that
was particularly interesting.  Unfortunately, when I received it was too
late to ask Chris since I had already submitted my column.

The question came from a gentleman named Bud Barnow of Palm
Springs, Ca.   I have changed the wording somewhat to enable it to be
asked to every poker player.  In essence, the main idea of it remains the
same.

Here's the question and be as honest as you can. "What is the least
amount of money you would take to not play any form of poker or card
games for the next 10 years?"

It would be interesting to hear all the reasons the players would give as
to why they would take the amount they took.   Unfortunately, I don't
have the space and if I did I think it might be an effort to make more out
of something than it deserves.

I hope everyone takes this column as an attempt to be a little
lighthearted.  A little imagination may be required but on the other hand,
there may be a serious side to the whole thing.  It just "might" get us all
to realize just how important poker is, or isn't, in our lives.

Here is what some of the top players and friends of mine answered.

So if you would like to decimate the ranks of tournament poker and get
rid of the likes of T.J., Bonetti, Miami John, Barry Johnston and so on, all
you will have to come up with is a paltry $146,213,018.  Of course, you'd
still have to contend with Phil, Tex, Charlie and a few other top players.

Oh, and I almost forgot, please no phone calls, "The check is in the mail."
